On 10 July 2025, the team co-hosted the inaugural Sustainable Aviation Forum in Guangzhou with the National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (NUS GRTII), the first event of its kind in this major aviation hub. The forum was structured around two tracks: sustainable aviation fuel and the emerging low-altitude economy.

Xiaofang Fu of NUS GRTII welcomed guests and stressed the urgency of decarbonising aviation, which accounts for around 3 percent of global emissions, while Shane Zhang of UniSA highlighted the value of Australia-China collaboration in aviation innovation. On the SAF track, Samuel Wong of PAC outlined ICAO’s CORSIA scheme and the lifecycle requirements SAF must meet, and Heather Bone of Team Global Express discussed the infrastructure barriers to adoption. Nikola Xing of Cathay Pacific presented the airline’s target of 10 percent SAF use by 2030, Lindsey Liu of Argus reviewed global SAF policy settings, noting Singapore’s leading incentive framework, and Zhou Qiang of 9 Air described the cost-saving SAF practices of the Guangzhou-based low-cost carrier.

On the low-altitude economy track, Li Chuxin of NUS GRTII presented the institute’s work on regional control algorithms for logistics and inspection, and Wu Weiwen of GDZ Low-Altitude Industry Development Co. described Guangzhou’s ecosystem of over 400 square kilometres of approved airspace for applications such as smart logistics. Zhao Dongjie of Qingdao Shitian discussed agricultural drones, and Nathan Ilic spoke on embedding sustainability through ESG frameworks.

Jacqui Ramagge, UniSA STEM’s Executive Dean, joined online during the tea break to underline the importance of aviation and SAF to Australia’s connectivity. The forum concluded with a panel discussion and networking session, with thanks extended to NUS GRTII, PAC, Argus and Iris Zhang of the Government of South Australia.
